Made of Setoyaki (瀬戸焼) porcelain and handcrafted at Tsubakigama (椿窯) in Seto City, Aichi Prefecture, this elegant small bowl is formed in a refined kiku-gata (chrysanthemum-shaped) design. The softly undulating petal form adds a gentle decorative touch, while remaining practical for everyday dining.
A natural glaze called Haiyu (ash glaze), made from plant ash, is used for the finish. Expressed only with natural ash and without pigments, it offers a simple, warm texture that harmonizes beautifully with all genres of cuisine. The glaze is primarily made from pine wood ash; because of its high iron content, it produces a soft, natural celadon color, giving the piece a serene and timeless appearance.
With its modest size and graceful form, this bowl is ideal for serving appetizers, side dishes, or desserts. The chrysanthemum motif, symbolizing longevity and celebration in Japanese culture, also makes it a thoughtful gift.

About Tsubaki Kiln
Founded in 1979 by Haruji Hayashi in Jokoji, Seto, Tsubaki Kiln is known for its refined Seto sometsuke (blue-and-white porcelain), crafted using advanced copperplate transfer techniques. In 2012, second-generation potter Eiji Hayashi took over the kiln, blending his background in sculpture and Kyoto-trained skills to bring a fresh perspective. While preserving tradition, he continues to explore new forms of Seto ware with a modern sensibility.
