Made of Setoyaki (瀬戸焼) porcelain and handcrafted at Tsubakigama (椿窯) in Seto City, Aichi Prefecture, this charming bean-shaped small plate combines playfulness with refined craftsmanship. The softly curved form, reminiscent of a bean, adds a touch of warmth and movement to the table, while remaining practical for everyday dining.
The surface is finished with Haiyu (ash glaze), a natural glaze made from plant ash. Expressed only with natural ash and without pigments, it conveys a gentle, organic character that harmonizes with all types of cuisine. The glaze is primarily made from pine wood ash; because of its high iron content, it produces a soft, natural celadon tone, offering depth and a serene atmosphere.
Compact yet versatile, this bean-shaped plate is ideal for serving appetizers, condiments, sweets, or small side dishes. Its unique form adds variety to a table setting and pairs beautifully with both Japanese and Western dining styles.

About Tsubaki Kiln
Founded in 1979 by Haruji Hayashi in Jokoji, Seto, Tsubaki Kiln is known for its refined Seto sometsuke (blue-and-white porcelain), crafted using advanced copperplate transfer techniques. In 2012, second-generation potter Eiji Hayashi took over the kiln, blending his background in sculpture and Kyoto-trained skills to bring a fresh perspective. While preserving tradition, he continues to explore new forms of Seto ware with a modern sensibility.
