Sencha Yunomi Tea Cup Old-Oribe Style
Traditional Seto Akazu Ware Yunomi Tea Cup with Old Oribe Glaze — Crafted by Miyoshi Itsuzo (三次五三)
This exquisite yunomi tea cup is handcrafted by renowned Seto-based Akazu ware artist Miyoshi Itsuzo, embodying the spirit of Ko-Oribe (Old Oribe) from Japan’s Momoyama period (1573–1603). Featuring a hand-brushed “心” (kokoro) character, its asymmetrical form and flowing glaze perfectly capture the natural beauty of wabi-sabi, celebrating imperfection and individuality.
Made in the Akazu region, known for its high-quality Akazuyaki ceramics, this piece is crafted using traditional techniques and certified as a National Traditional Craft of Japan. The Oribe glaze, named after the tea master Furuta Oribe—a disciple of Sen no Rikyu—is famed for its distinctive glossy green hues. The glaze’s varying shades and rich pooling in recessed areas create a deep, expressive green tone that adds remarkable visual depth and elegance.
This yunomi tea cup blends timeless tradition with artistic innovation, making it a refined addition to any tea collection or table setting.
