Seto Sometsuke

Seto Sometsuke

Sometsuke (瀬戸染付) blue-and-white porcelain originated in Seto in the early 19th century. It uses cobalt oxide pigment on a white base and a special firing method called “Nerashi” to create rich, deep blue patterns. Skilled craftsmen apply the pigment with thick brushes, producing beautiful variations of blue in a single color.
