Sushi Yunomi Tea Cup Old-Oribe Style
Traditional Seto Akazu Ware Sushi Yunomi with Old Oribe Glaze — Crafted by Miyoshi Itsuzo (三次五三)
This beautiful sushi yunomi tea cup is handcrafted by the acclaimed Seto-based Akazu ware artist Miyoshi Itsuzo, inspired by the Ko-Oribe (Old Oribe) style of Japan’s Momoyama period (1573–1603). Featuring a hand-brushed “心” (kokoro) character, its asymmetrical shape and flowing glaze embody the refined aesthetic of wabi-sabi, celebrating imperfection and individuality.
Produced in the Akazu area, famous for its high-quality Akazuyaki ceramics, this piece is made using traditional methods and certified as a National Traditional Craft of Japan. The iconic Oribe glaze, named after the tea master Furuta Oribe—a disciple of Sen no Rikyu—is known for its distinctive glossy green shades. The glaze pools in recessed areas, creating a rich, deep green that adds depth and elegance to each unique piece.
Perfectly sized for enjoying green tea alongside sushi, this yunomi combines centuries-old tradition with modern artistry, making it a refined addition to any sushi dining experience.
