Leaf Vein Small Plate
Leaf-Shaped Small Plate – Shingama Sometsuke
This elegant small plate features a delicate cutout at the edge, evoking the gentle curve of a leaf. Its graceful form is perfect for serving soy sauce with sashimi or presenting small sweets alongside coffee. The soft coloring of the glaze creates a beautiful contrast when used with sauces or treats.
Handcrafted by Shingama, a ceramic studio founded in 1919 in Seto City, Aichi, Japan, this piece reflects over a century of tradition in sometsuke (blue & white ware). The studio specializes in dye-painted porcelain using gosu (cobalt-based pigment) and the traditional dami brush technique, where rich shades of indigo are expressed in a single brushstroke—much like ink painting.
Each piece showcases the subtle beauty and craftsmanship unique to Seto ware. In 1997, Seto Sometsuke-yaki was officially recognized as a Traditional Craft by Japan’s Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, celebrated both in Japan and around the world for its refined forms and timeless blue-and-white artistry.
